Message from Governor, Barbara Gobbi

I hope this message finds you well. As many of you may already know, a heart-wrenching situation has unfolded in Maui with the outbreak of devastating wildfires. Words cannot truly convey the sorrow we feel for those affected by this tragedy. Our hearts go out not only to the communities suffering but also to our fellow Rotarians in District 5000 who are in the midst of this crisis.

The destruction is vast and the recovery process will undoubtedly be long, challenging, and costly. As we watch the news and see the heartbreak that unfolds, it is easy to feel helpless, but we are Rotarians. We take action. We serve where the need is greatest.

For those looking to extend their hand in support, there's a direct way you can make a difference.

 Donate to Rotary District 5000:

Our brothers and sisters in District 5000 have set up a donation page for this specific cause. Please consider making a donation, however big or small, to support the relief and recovery efforts. Every contribution counts in making a meaningful impact.

I am confident that our combined strength, spirit, and generosity can play a pivotal role in alleviating some of the pain and challenges that lie ahead for the victims of these wildfires. Let's come together and showcase the true power of Rotary's unity and commitment to service above self.

Remember, in times of distress and devastation, it is unity and collective action that can bring about hope and change.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and unyielding commitment to the ideals of Rotary. Together, we can and will make a difference.

MAUI NO KA OI - MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN HAWAI'I
MESSAGE FROM MARK MERRIAN, DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Maui Rotary Clubs
Sending Our Aloha and Prayers to Our Maui 'ohana!

August 9, 2023 was a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.

As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.

Through our Rotary District 5000 Foundation, a relief fund has been established. Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations. A committee will be organized shortly to find the greatest needs for distribution of monies. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the most significant benefits.

Please consider donating to this special fund, Maui Fires Relief Fund. Mahalo to the Rotary Club of Waikiki for collecting monies at their lunch meeting today. These are the first contributions to the fund. Please also widely share this opportunity to help.

Stay safe, take care and mahalo for creating hope.

Mark Merriam, District Governor

SUNDAY, SEPT. 10TH - "REPAIR THE SEA CLEANUP"
NEW PROGRAM: REPAIR THE SEA (Tikkun HaYam in Hebrew)

This year the International Coastal Cleanup falls on Shabbat during the Rosh Hashanah holiday. Therefore, Jewish members of our District will not be able to participate on that date. To address this concern, and those of others who cannot make the September 16th date, we will provide an additional new program called, Repair the Sea (Tikkun HaYam in Hebrew), which will be held on September 10th. This event is open to all (Rotary Club members, family and friends, and the community at large). To find out more about this year's "Repair the Sea program" click here.

To register for this event please click on the red box (text link) below. We need to know how many people will attend. Additionally, when filling out the form, one of the mandatory questions is to identify your "Community." Please scroll down and choose "Pinecrest - Rotary Environmental Sustainability District (6990) Action Committee."
