Bernie was born and raised in New Ringgold, a small town in eastern Pennsylvania near Allentown, and graduated from Penn State University with a BS degree in Computer Science. He and his wife Nancy were married in 1983 and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1989, when they started Riedel Computer Services. A few years later, Bernie's son Michael joined the business.
He joined the Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island in 1992 and served as Club President 1999-2000, Assistant Governor 2001-2004, District Governor 2006-2007, and District Foundation Chair 2008-2011. In 2004, he served as District Conference Chair and was honored as District Rotarian of the year.
He has received the Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service, the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award, and most recently, the Rotary Foundation’s International Service Award for a Polio Free World.
Bernie currently serves as Zone 33, End Polio Now Coordinator and effective July 1, 2024, he'll be serving as Zone 33 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator.
He is a member of the Paul Harris Society and, along with his Rotarian wife, Nancy, Major Donors and members of the Bequest Society & PolioPlus Society.
Bernie and Nancy were honored to serve as RI President’s Representatives to District 7930 in Massachusetts.
Thanks to the family Business, Rotary and taking care of 3 Parrots, 2 Cats & 2 Chihuahuas, Bernie & Nancy have no time for hobbies or travel.
