Laura Plata is a 10th Grade student from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a Colombian-American with a passion for STEM and whitewater kayaking. From an early age, Laura developed an interest in tinkering with tools in her garage, as well as engineering design. Laura has won multiple science awards and competitions, including Science Olympiad, and worked as part of an eCYBERMISSION STEM-in-action grant team developing solutions for plastic waste in waterways. In 2020, during the pandemic lockdown, Laura began developing STEAMinis, a non for profit organization that strives to spark a desire in STEM for underrepresented minorities in STEM fields. Most recently, she won the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing at the National level. Laura is also an avid whitewater kayaker. In her free time, she enjoys canoe slalom, talking with friends, and watching Netflix.

You've Been Served Event will allow clubs in the Zones to demonstrate Rotary's motto of Service Above Self by performing acts of kindness and good deeds in their local communities. Clubs will work in conjunction with the Zones' Public Image team to advertise this event dedicated to service across the Zones. This event could become an annual event and may, one day, become international with Rotary Clubs all across the world participating.
