Joe Gibbons was born in Harlem, New York City. He received a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies/Sociology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York. He has been a resident of Florida since 1994.

He spent eight years with IBM in sales and management positions. And owned and operated computer stores in the state of Michigan. He spent six years as President and General Manager of NER Data Products of Canada, a computer peripheral and manufacturing company. He also spent seven years with Ackerman, LLP, a leading U.S. law firm, as a Public Policy Advisor. He is currently President of Gibbons Consulting Group.

Joe Gibbons previously elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2006. He served in leadership as The Chair of The Florida Legislative Black Caucus and the Democratic Minority Leader Pro Tempore. Before his election to the Florida House, he served one term as a City Commissioner in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Research Institute and had earned numerous awards and recognitions for his business achievements and community service. He was appointed to the White House Conference on Small Business and selected by the Small Business Administration as the "Minority Business Person of the Year."

He currently serves on the Board of Henderson Behavioral Health Centers and the Finance and Audit Committee of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County.

Joe is married to Ava Parker, the President of Palm Beach State College, and they have 11-year-old twins.

    All 2021-2022 incoming club officers, chairs, and co-chairs are expected to attend. Everyone who is interested in furthering their Rotary knowledge and participating in District 6990 conversations is encouraged to attend. There will be a number of "out of District" guests as well. They will share their insights and provide a broader perspective.
