My name is Anagha Iyer and I am the Chair of the Broward Sierra Group - Junior Team, a group of high school students working to preserve the environment through advocacy, outreach, and education. I was given your email, by Susan Mandel who suggested you could be of service when it comes to making presentations/proposals at meetings.
One of the newest initiates we are working on is our Seed Library Project. These are essentially free seed banks for the community. Oftentimes, seeds/plants can be expensive, which hinders potential gardeners from getting their green thumb on. The purpose of this project is to support local biodiversity, the development of green spaces, and even growing your own crops at home! It is comparable to a free little book library where you take a book and leave a book….except with seeds!
We recently received a $5000 grant from Broward County to implement 5 of these seed libraries in local libraries; however, we were not able to do any in Hollywood and Aventura due to budget constraints. is a senior in high school, the BSG Junior Team Chair, and a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability. She has actively worked to raise awareness about critical issues like waste management and climate change, recently speaking at a press conference about how landfills and incineration—two practices that, though different in method, share the same harmful impacts—pose serious threats to future generations.
Anagha’s commitment to advocacy also extends to her writing; she has authored several letters to the editor on environmental topics that have been published in outlets such as the Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel. Through her leadership and voice, she strives to inspire others to take meaningful action for a more sustainable future.
