Dr. Anthony Tyrkala is the proud principal of Aventura City of Excellence School (ACES). He is currently in his 11th year at ACES and 4th year as Principal. After beginning his ACES career teaching 7th-grade Civics and coaching several sports, he was honored as Teacher of the Year and subsequently was promoted to Dean of Students before serving as Assistant Principal and then becoming the Principal. He is proud to be part of an organization centered on a sense of family and collaboration.
His journey into the field of education was never part of the plans, especially considering his high school performance, which can only be described as lackluster. After he served five years in the US Army as an Air Traffic Controller, he then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in History from SUNY Potsdam, a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from The College of William and Mary, a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from American College of Education, and Doctor of Education degree in Learning Sciences from the University of Miami.
Dr. Tyrkala is passionate about leadership, organizational improvement, mental and physical well-being, and process development, in addition to childhood psychological development.
In his free time, Dr. T loves spending time with his wife Ana and daughter Sabrina, as well as watching football. Go Bucs, Go Canes!!
