Laura Plata is a 10th Grade student from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a Colombian-American with a passion for STEM and whitewater kayaking. From an early age, Laura developed an interest in tinkering with tools in her garage, as well as engineering design. Laura has won multiple science awards and competitions, including Science Olympiad, and worked as part of an eCYBERMISSION STEM-in-action grant team developing solutions for plastic waste in waterways. In 2020, during the pandemic lockdown, Laura began developing STEAMinis, a non for profit organization that strives to spark a desire in STEM for underrepresented minorities in STEM fields.
